Mahrez needed "kick up backside", insists ShakespeareLeicester boss Craig Shakespeare insists a “kick up the backside” worked wonders for Riyad Mahrez after the wantaway forward netted a late leveller to snatch a point against West Brom.

Trailing to a stunning 30-yard free-kick from former Tottenham midfielder Nacer Chadli, recalled winger Mahrez scored his first goal in his last 11 Premier League appearances with 10 minutes remaining to ensure a share of the spoils.

Mahrez has so far this season been a shadow of the player who was so instrumental during Leicester’s shock Premier League title success in 2016 and Shakespeare said: “I left him out against Bournemouth, gave him a kick up the backside and he was excellent in training. You want the response and the right response.”

A point ensured Leicester remain in the relegation zone, while West Brom are 10th.
