Tsunami waves measuring 40 centimetres, or 1.3 feet, have been reported on Japan's Hachijojima island, located 290 kilometres south of Tokyo.
The Japan Meteorological Agency had earlier warned that the waves could reach up to one meter, or 3 feet, in height.
