Japan Releasing Treated Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Wastewater Into Ocean

In 2011, Japan’s nuclear power plant had a meltdown leaving radioactive water leaking into the plant’s basements.

It was later stored in tanks.

By 2024, Japan said, space in the tanks will be maxed out at 1.37 million metric tons.

The planned final resting place: the Pacific Ocean.
