Three places in Illinois and Mississippi will display the new monument, NPR reports.

.

Those locations are Chicago's Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ, which is where Till's funeral was held in 1955.

Graball Landing in Mississippi, where Till's body was discovered in the river.

And the Tallahatchie County Second District Courthouse in Mississippi, where the men who killed Till were acquitted by a jury a white peers.

.

President Biden will sign a proclamation designating the national monument on July 25.

That date also represents what would have been Till's 82nd birthday.

.

Till was kidnapped, tortured and murdered at the age of 14 when he was accused of grabbing and flirting with a white woman.

The men who were acquitted in his murder later confessed to the killing in an interview with a magazine.

Carolyn Bryant Donham, the woman who accused Till of harassing her, later confessed that her testimony was a lie.

.

Till's mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, was "instrumental in keeping the story of [his] murder alive," NPR reports.
