don now from your local election headquarters... taylorsville was one of four cities in salt lake county where the incumbent mayor lost his or her bid for re- election. chief political correspondent glen mills caught up with the mayor-elect in taylorsville to find out more about her vision for the city. xxx :15-:22 1:27-1:32 glen mills "taylorsville residents voted for change on election night... but it's a familiar face taking over here at city hall." from a seat on the taylorsville city council... to the mayor's office... kristie steadman overson is taking over the reigns. kristie steadman overson/ mayor- elect, taylorsville "we have really great city employees, planning commissioners, we have great residents, as i have met a lot of them, i'm just excited to get started." overson defeated incumbent mayor larry johnson by about 14 percentage points according to the latest numbers. overson "lots of door knocking, close to 3000 doors in our city, and so, my whole focus was connecting with residents." before city council, overson spent several years as a planning commissioner for the growing city. she says that's one of her top priorities moving forward. overson "what is our city going to look like in 10 years, in 20 years? what are our needs going to be? what about young families? are we planning for them? are we going to have enough park space, open space? what are their housing needs? she says the best answers to those questions will come from residents, business owners and city officials all working together. a perspective she gained on the campaign trail, while knocking those doors. overson "maybe a perception at city hall about the needs of residents is different at city hall, than it is talking on someone's doorstep. so, i really hope to incorporate the ideas that i've heard from residents." glen mills "when overson is officially sworn in as mayor, city council will then pick her preplacement to join them on the council. reporting in
