Does this mean you need to get new cables? Probably not. According to CNET, the new HDMI 2:1 cable is really only necessary if you're working in high resolution (think 4K). Plus, the new HDMIs are very expensive right now, costing as much as $50. Unless your HDMI is already dying, just wait it out until the cost goes down.
