Did Trump Obstruct Justice? An Investigation Beginsby

To say that it’s been a dramatic few months for the start of Donald Trump’s US Presidency would be something of an understatement – amid high profile resignations and an ongoing investigation into alleged links between Trump’s team and spies in Russia, there has also been the matter of the President’s controversial travel ban – which has been pushed back and blocked a number of times by various courts. Trump’s rhetoric and relationship with world leaders over the past few months has also come under high scrutiny, with the Commander in Chief continuing to make use of Twitter to fairly divisive end, even spawning his own random word – ‘covfefe’ – in the process.

Another day, however, and another twist in the tale emerges – as it appears that Trump may now be placed under further investigation with regard to his potential obstruction of justice. The investigation, as alleged by The Washington Post, is the latest wing of the ongoing Russia insight, which will supposedly look into whether or not the President tried blocking prior probing into alleged ties with Russia during his election campaign last year. Trump, true to form, took to Twitter to refute the claims – stating that he again was subject to a ‘witch hunt’, and that the obstruction of justice claim comes about as ‘they made up a phony collusion with the Russian story’ and ‘found zero proof’. Certainly, whether or not such an investigation is carried out, Trump has made his position clear – and publicly so – on the matter.

It’s thought that such an investigation may revolve around allegations regarding Trump’s supposed encouragement of ex-FBI chief James Comey to ‘see (his) way clear to letting this go’. By ‘this’, Trump is thought to have referred to the situation regarding ex National Security adviser Michael Flynn, who since left the top team as a result of misinformation he provided over contact with a Russian Ambassador in 2016. Trump, again, has refuted claims that Comey made under oath – himself stating that he would be ‘100% willing’ to come before Congress and testify himself.

The murkiness surrounding Trump and his team’s alleged links to Russia seems to get murkier – and while the President himself is confident in having committed no wrongdoing, the saga has continued to cause unease in Congress – with media outlets continuing to postulate over whether or not it will all culminate in Trump facing impeachment.
