David Trimble aide’s 1999 row with Irish News over concerns it had ‘demonised’ him

One of David Trimble’s special advisers told the head of the Civil Service he had employed a solicitor related to the owner of The Irish News in the hope he could secure a retraction of claims about him “without resorting to heavy pressure”.
