Chelsea's David Luiz 'wanted by Barcelona'

** Chelsea's David Luiz 'wanted by Barcelona' **

*Chelsea defender David Luiz is on Spanish champions Barcelona's summer transfer wish list and the Blues will face a fight to keep the Brazilian star at Stamford Bridge.*

The Catalan giants are reportedly ready to offer £35 million for the flamboyant centre-back, who caught their eye in 2010 when he was the player of the year in the Portuguese league during his time at Benfica.

Boss Pep Guardiola sees Luiz as the ideal replacement for long-serving Carles Puyol, the Daily Mail noted, with the latter coming to the end of his career at the Nou Camp.

He believes the Brazilian would fit in with Barcelona's style of play and complement fellow defender Gerard Pique perfectly.

But Chelsea paid £21 million for the player when they snapped him up from Benfica last January and are sure not to let him leave without a fight.

Luiz has recently won over the Stamford Bridge crowd after initial concerns over the quality of his defending. He was magnificent in the club's Champions League second-leg comeback against Napoli in west London.

But the frizzy-haired fans' favourite might find it hard to turn down the chance to play alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, David Villa and Xavi for the reigning Champions League winners.
