Nintendo Switch Line-Up Confirmed: Big Franchises Return For New Console In 2017by

Love or hate Nintendo, it can hardly be denied that their upcoming console, the Switch, will need to be a success for the company. While they are still going strong in their native Japan, their previous Wii U console has suffered heavily worldwide, with many industry insiders arguing that the hardware peripherals contributed to the system’s poor reception. Certainly, the company had risen from the ashes before with their highly lucrative Wii console over ten years ago – and in March, they are hoping to replicate this success.

This week, Nintendo revealed the full launch line-up for the console, with trailers and sneak peeks at games due to arrive on the new platform later this year. Fans were also treated to more looks at the new hardware, which will allow gamers to take their console out of the house to play as a handheld, and with splitting controllers that will encourage multiplayer on the move – and without a TV.

The system’s launch roster includes the hugely sought-after Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild, along with new title 1-2 Switch and the return of retro favorite Bomberman. New iterations in the Skylanders and Just Dance franchises, both hugely popular, will also arrive with the console on March 3rd. Other games to look forward to later in the year will include new titles in the form of Fast RMX, Has-Been Heroes and Arms, and an updated Mario Kart 8 – titled Deluxe – which will give players the opportunity to play with new characters, cars, tracks and modes.

Fans were also talking wildly about the upcoming open-world Mario title, Super Mario Odyssey, which many will hope takes the plucky plumber back to the halcyon days of star exploration in Super Mario 64. Superfans will also get sequels in the form of Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, while followers of the blue blur will be happy to hear that a new, retro-inspired Sonic the Hedgehog title – Sonic Mania – will be launching too during the year. That’s not all – as multi-platform hits Minecraft and Skyrim will both be heading to the Switch, with the latter allowing players to take questing on the move for the very first time.

The price tag for the console is varying from territory to territory, and with some claiming that the price does not warrant the launch list, it will remain to be seen how well Nintendo’s latest venture fares. One thing’s for certain, though – if this one doesn’t outdo the Wii U, there may be big changes ahead for Mario and co.
